Instead you should eat things like bananas, apples, cheese and yogurt. This is how to cure Munching Mania.

Your job is to learn about healthy eating and then help the children at our school  by curing Munching Mania!

* Graph your eating habits.

*LEARN about the food groups and balanced meals.

*Compare your eating habits to what you should be eating .

*Make changes to your diet .

*Create a page for a book that will teach other children how to eat a well balanced healthy meal.

JUMP RIGHT IN AND ENJOY!!!!  THANK YOU FOR HELPING TO CURE  MUNCHING MANIA AT OUR SCHOOL!!!

                              DAY 1

1. You are going to be working in a group of five to learn about your eating habits. Do you have Munching Mania? How can we cure it?

2. Click on the blue words to get a Nutrition Tracker and print out one nutrition tracker for each child in your group.

3.Take them from the printer and give each member of your group a nutrition tracker.  Each person needs to  write down what they ate for their three meals and snacks from yesterday.

4. Mark on there what food group it came from.

5..Total up how many servings you had of each. If you are not sure which group your food is in LOOK HERE by clicking on the picture. Food Guide Pyramid

                         DAY 2

6. Next you are going to learn whether you are a HEALTHY EATER or have MUNCHING MANIA. Each member of your group is going to be an expert on one food group. The expert will learn:

WHAT FOODS ARE IN YOUR GROUP AND HOW MANY SERVINGS OF THOSE FOODS SHOULD YOU EAT?

The expert will click on the picture to find the information they need.

One group member will be the GRAIN GRAPHER. He/she will learn all about grains.

One group member will be the MEAT MEASURER and learn about the meat group .

One group member will be the FRUIT FINDER and learn about the fruit group .

One group member will be the VEGETABLE VERIFIER and learn about the vegetable group.

One group member will be the DAIRY DETECTIVE and learn about the dairy group .

EACH MEMBER SHOULD SHARE WHAT THEY LEARNED ABOUT THEIR FOOD GROUP WITH THE OTHER MEMBERS IN THE GROUP.

                      DAY 3

7. Now that you have five experts on the food groups, click on the piece of paper to get  a  direction sheet for how to complete the graph.

8. Print one out for your group.

9. Work with your group to create a graph showing how many servings of each food group that you had the other day. Use the data on the Nutrition Tracker for your graph.

GRAIN GRAPHER will graph the  grains he/she ate. MEAT MEASURER will graph the meats he/she ate. FRUIT FINDER will graph the fruits he/she ate. VEGETABLE VERIFIER will graph the vegetables he/she ate. DAIRY DETECTIVE will graph the dairy products he/she ate.

10.  Click here to go to  Kids Graphs and use the graphing directions to complete the graph.  Example of a Bar Graph

11. Compare  what you ate to what you should've eaten. Each expert will  write a sentence for their food group, on the bottom or the back of the graph that says:

I ate ___________ (grains, vegetables, fruits, meats or dairy).  I should have eaten ________ (grains, vegetables, fruits, meats or dairy.)

DID YOUR GROUP HAVE MUNCHING MANIA OR ARE YOU HEALTHY EATERS?

                         DAY 4

12. Now that you are an expert and you know how to cure MUNCHING MANIA, we need to help others at our school.  Your group needs to get a large piece of construction paper from your teacher.

13. Fold it into fourths.

14. Label the four squares: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Snacks.

15. Your group needs to illustrate the four blocks with meals that will be a balanced diet for the day.  Be sure you have the correct number of servings.  You may use markers, crayons, magazine pictures or clipart from the computer to create the illustrations for the page in this book.

16. On your page you also need to write about the foods that you chose for your meals and how they are healthy. REMEMBER WE ARE TRYING TO KEEP THE CHILDREN AT OUR SCHOOL HEALTHY!!!!!
