Process

Step 1: You will join two other students to make a group of three.

Step 2: Choose one of the following roles and complete the assigned research:

Dr. Smiley: You are Max's dentist. Your job is to tell Max
how he can take care of his teeth. Research the sites listed on the Resources page to find teeth cleaning tips, a virtual dentist's office tour, and proper nutrition.

Mr. Rotten Tooth: You are Max's former tooth. You had to be pulled because you were so rotten. Your job is to tell Max why you rotted. Research the sites listed on the Resources page to find out what causes teeth to decay.

Brother Cuspid: You are one of Max's two remaining
teeth who wrote the letter to the Tooth Fairy. Your job is to tell Max why he needs you. Research the sites listed on the Resources page to find important uses of teeth.

Step 3: Each group member should see the teacher for a copy of the filmstrip template. Each group member should include three facts (based on your research) that would persuade Max to take care of his teeth. Each person's filmstrip should have the following format:

    Frame 1: Draw a picture of a fact.
    Frame 2: Write a description of the fact in Frame 1.
    Frame 3: Draw a picture of a second fact.
    Frame 4: Write a description of the fact in Frame 3.
    Frame 5: Draw a picture of a third fact.
    Frame 6: Write a description of the fact in Frame 5.

Step 4: Grab some tape and work with your group members to combine your portions of the filmstrip into one completed filmstrip. Arrange the filmstrip in the following order:
    Section 1: Brother Cuspid's filmstrip
    Section 2: Mr. Rotten Tooth's filmstrip
    Section 3: Dr. Smiley's filmstrip

Step 5: Have the teacher make a transparency from your filmstrip template.

Step 6: Present your findings to the rest of the class by viewing the filmstrip on the overhead projector.

Step 7: Take the filmstrip to the teacher, and s/he will mail it to the Tooth Fairy to leave under Max's pillow.
