2/23: Our next meeting will be on Wednesday, March 1 at 12PM in SC402. Drs. Bullen, McGill, and Walters will present a summary of their current research activities and outline opportunities for undergraduate research in their groups. If you're considering being involved in undergraduate research (and you should be!), make every effort to attend. Even if you're just a freshman, there are opportunities to participate! 2/10: NKU SAACS/GSE will be offering tutoring sessions to students in CHE 102, 105, 115, 120, 121, 310, and 311 this term. The first tutoring session will be on February 27 at 5PM in SC401 (The Chemistry Student Lounge). If you need some help before your next test, stop by (snacks will be served). If you'd like to help as a tutor, contact Heather G, Dr. Bullen, or Dr. Walters.

1/16: As a part of the NKU chemistry department's review of its current programs and future mission, NKU SAACS/GSE will be hosting a lunch meeting on Monday, January 23 at Noon in SC 416. Pizza will be served! Our special guest for the meeting will be Mitch Malachowski, an external reviewer for the department. This meeting is our first "research showcase" of the year, where chemistry faculty members (Dr. Niewahner, Dr. Russell, and Dr. Paula) will present brief overviews of their research programs and their current student "needs". We'll have more chemistry faculty make presentations in the spring. All who are interested in conducting chemistry research at NKU (even if you're not ready yet) are invited to come and enjoy free pizza & drinks! See you there!

9/28/05: The next SAACS Meeting will feature a presentation from P&G representatives about job and internship opportunities in their organization. Even if you're not near graduation, it's never too early to start thinking about life "after NKU". The meeting will be in SC 300 from 11-12 and SC 305 from 12-1 (it is not necessary to come to both hours; the meeting is conducted in this fashion to ensure that as many people can attend as possible). Free pizza will be served!

9/21/05: As an extension of the grad school talk today, SAACS/GSE (in cooperation with Tri-Beta and the NKU Research Foundation) is sponsoring a roundtable discussion on "Writing Grants to Pay for Graduate School". If you're thinking about graduate school, this will be an excellent opportunity to learn how you can secure funding through national agencies like the National Science Foundation to further support your graduate education. Three faculty (including Dr. McGill) will be speaking. The meeting will be held in SC 300 next Tuesday (9/27) from 12:30-1:30 in SC 300. Free pizza will be provided!
9/16/05: NKU SAACS/GSE is looking for volunteers for this year's National Chemistry Week demo shows. This year we're doing more shows than ever before (seven!), so we need all the help we can get. This year's theme is the chemistry of toys, so it should be lots of fun! If you're interested in participating, please sign up on the sheet in the chemistry student lounge (SC 401).
9/16/05: The next SAACS/GSE meeting is next Wednesday (9/21) at noon in SC 305. This meeting's focus will be on graduate school (what it is / what it entails / why you might want to go). We'll feature a panel discussion led by Dr. Kempton and featuring other department faculty members. If you've thought about graduate school (or just want to learn more), make plans to attend!
9/16/05: SAACS/GSE members are offering free tutoring this year in the chemistry student lounge (SC401). Tutoring is available for all freshmen and sophomore chemistry courses, and the "tutor desk" is staffed every M-R from 12-3PM. No appointments are necessary, and the service is FREE! Be sure to take advantage of this opportunity! Should you wish additional one-on-one, scheduled tutoring, contact the Learning Assistance Center for more information.
8/24/05: Mark your calendars! The first SAACS/GSE event of the fall term is an ice cream social! Come celebrate the end of the first week of classes this Friday (8/26) in SC 401. Have some ice cream, meet other chemistry students and the department faculty, and learn about some of the activities SAACS/GSE has planned for this fall. Bring a friend!
