Spring Officer Meeting

MINUTES: The president discussed officer duties for this and next year's officers. The officers and chairs for next year (Fall '04 through Spring '05) are as follows: President: Libby Wiggers; Vice President: Eric Ferraris; Secretary: Shelley Stamper; Treasurer: Matt Lauer; Activities Coordinator: Sarah Beetem. The February 4 upcoming seminar was announced. On Tuesday, February 10 in room SC 207 @ 12 pm, representatives from Proctor & Gamble will be holding a resume workshop for students who need help with their resume. On Friday, February 13 in room SC 207 @ 2pm, representatives from Children’s Hospital at UC will be talking to students about career opportunities such as technician jobs or graduate student programs that currently available. Interviews for Proctor & Gamble will be on February 24 & 25. Contact the Career Development Center (CDC) in order to apply. Next year, the officers and advisors (Dr. Russell and Dr. Walters) will discuss bringing in a “big name speaker”. Matt Lauer, the Graduate School Coordinator, has posted undergraduate research opportunities in the fourth floor lounge for The University of Louisville. Science fair judging will be discussed at the next meeting.

Wednesday, October 1 2003 General Meeting, SC 300

MINUTES: The president discussed grade release forms for student life in addition to the roster for presenting at libraries for national chemistry week. If you have not filled out a grade release form for student life, please do so and turn it into student life or to one of the officers. We can get money from them! Dr. Walters discussed national chemistry week. The main topic of national chemistry week this year is chemistry of the atmosphere. Also, it was discussed that we should set up a table in the science center during national chemistry week. The times and places for the national chemistry week demonstrations are:

October 21, 3:30PM at the Newport branch of the Campbell Co. Public Library
November 4, 7:00PM at the Walton branch of the Boone Co. Public Library
Also, a demonstration will be held on the NKU campus, which will likely be either on October 22 at 2:30 or October 23 at 2:00 in room SC 308.

The vice president Shelly Stamper passed around the committee sign up sheets for those who would like to help arrange speakers to come to the meetings. Contact the officers or the advisors if you are interested.

Initial (September, 2003) General Meeting

MINUTES: Pizza and drinks were passed out, and the officers were introduced. The president emphasized and discussed: The benefits of national affiliate membership; the open house @ University of Louisville School of Medicine (Saturday, Sept. 13 10am-1pm); the bake sale on Thursday, September 4 in 2nd floor lobby from 8am-1pm; and locker sales (president needs to finalize information with Tri-Beta). The faculty advisors were introduced and discussed: National Chemistry Week, which will entail going to libraries and teaching children about chemistry in addition to cleaning up part of the AA highway; to help the NKU SAACS chapter become more recognized as a national and prestigious group; benefits of becoming national ACS members as opposed to staying regular student-affiliated members. Students and visitors the introduced themselves telling their name, major, and year in college, and an email contact list was passed out.
