MINUTES: Officers for 2002-2003 were announced. The new officers are as follows: Sheria Spain~President, Andrew Lauer~Vice President, Angela Pickeral~Secretary, Bridgett Steele~Treasurer, Annie Vollmar & Leah Martin~Co-Activity Directors. Also, Dr. Dickinson will be the new faculty advisor for SAACS in 2002-2003. The main focus of the meeting was the resume workshop, that was a great success. Marsha Miller, a career counselor from NKU's CDC and representatives from Procter & Gamble, attended the meeting to discuss the "Do's & Don'ts" of writing resumes. Marsha pointed out that there's no one right way to write a resume, but there are several wrong ways. Marsha handed out examples of the two most common types of resumes: chronological and functional. The P&G representatives focused on "what P&G looks for in a resume". Those who attended the meeting had the opportunity to meet with the P&G recruiters for one-on-one help sessions. Attendees obtained valuable feedback and advice on how to improve their resumes, from actual recruiters.

MINUTES: Jennifer Kreft, a representative from Kaplan Test Prep, attended the meeting to discuss the recent changes to the GRE and MCAT tests, as well as what Kaplan has to offer to students. Nominations began for SAACS 2002-2003 Officers. There are six positions open. If more than six people are nominated, then voting will take place by email. If you are interested in running for office, please sign up in NS 210 or Contact SAACS. Volunteers are still needed to be runners & judges for the Seventh Annual North and Central Kentucky Exposition of Science (formerly Central Kentucky Regional Science Fair). Runners will receive a free t-shirt and judges will receive a free ledger. For more information about NACKES and to register online to volunteer, please visit their website at www.nackes.org. As an incentive, Dr. Hicks announced that he would award 3.5 bonus points to the final score of any Pchem student's 2nd test, if they volunteered.

MINUTES: Representatives from Procter & Gamble attended the meeting to discuss internship opportunities and the recruiting interviews that they would be conducting on campus on February 20th-21st in connection with NKU's Career Development Center. If you are an undergraduate majoring in chemistry, biology, or biochemistry and are interested in an internship with P&G next summer, 2003, please contact Dr. David Ackley for more information. The representatives discussed the opportunities that P&G has to offer and what they would be looking for at the interviews. A big focus was on SAWs (Success Actions for Winning). The SAWs (Success Actions for Winning) factors are key actions that will lead to improved results for every single employee in the Company, from Administrator to CEO.
When you think about the experiences you would like to describe, use the following statements to identify the SAWs that you have put to use.
LEADERSHIP: Give an example of where you "made a difference" in school, at work, or in a community/extracurricular activity.
SOLUTIONS: Tell about a time you have sorted through data, identified a few key conclusions and used that analysis to influence a decision.
INNOVATION: Describe a time when you were able to come up with new ideas that were key to the success of some activity or project.
RISK-TAKING: Tell about a time when you made an unpopular decision or took an unpopular action in order to achieve an important result.
COLLABORATION: Give an example of how you developed and maintained a productive working relationship with someone who had a differing point of view.
CAPACITY: Talk about a situation that required you to make the best use of your time and energies. Tell me why you made the choices you made.
