Burma and Indonesia
Asian Student Association

Two opposing teams comprised of students will debate the current human rights issues in the two following countries:                                                            Myanmar (Burma)
Indonesia
 
The debate will concentrate on the issues in Burma of trafficking of young girls and women, child soldiers,  ethnic group displacement, refugee rights in Burma and the labor rights of impoverished peoples.
 
In Indonesia the issues discussed will be oppression of the Acehenese (Ah-chay) people by the military, occupation of West Papua by the military, refugee rights of the Papuans, and exploitation of indigenous Papuans.
 

The event will be held in Eva Farris Theater BEP 200. Refreshments will be provided. There will be a letter sent to faculty and staff inviting them and 24 students at the most from each class that attends. Classes, faculty, staff, and NKU students with ID are free. Business or formal attire required for entry.

General public admission into the debate will be $20. Doors will open at 5pm and close promptly at 5:58pm. Cell phones should be turned off or placed on silent during the debate. Talking will not be permitted during  the debate as well. Students and general public may reserve a seat at the contact information listed on this site.

Please note that $20 General Public Admission fees (exceptions: NKU faculty + students with NKU ID have free admission). The $20 admissions fee will be 80% donated to a charity in Indonesia and 20% will be for set up fees.
